GCPHN Psychological Services Program

The ATAPS program has been replaced with the Psychological Services Program. This new program, launched on 1 July and is better placed to meet local needs.
The Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) Psychological Services Program (PSP) provides short term psychological interventions for financially disadvantaged people with non-crisis, non-chronic, moderate mental health conditions, or for people who have attempted, or at risk of suicide or self harm.

The program is targeted for individuals that identify with one or more of the following groups:

  • People who are, or are at risk of, homelessness
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse population (CALD)
  • People who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, pansexual and others (LGBTIQAP+)
  • Women experiencing perinatal depression (until one year after childbirth)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • Children (aged 0-12) who have, or are at risk of developing a mental, childhood behavioural or emotional disorder
  • People who self-harm or who are at increased risk of suicide. A diagnosis is not required, however must be experiencing non-crisis, non-acute suicide self-harm issues that can benefit from psychological intervention.

Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) contracts appropriately qualified, registered and experienced Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) to provide psychological services the program, using evidence-based and focused psychological strategies. A Psychological Services Provider must be a GCPHN approved preferred provider.

Eligible people can access up to six (6) sessions with the option to step down into structured group programs for continued support. If it is a child referral, a tele-mental health service option is available to support those patients and their family who cannot physically access a service, or would prefer to access the service from home or online. This is delivered via technology such as videoconferencing with the only requirements being a computer with camera and audio, a reasonable internet connection and an engaged supervising adult.

People who do not fit into the eligible hard to reach groups will continue to have the option of accessing psychological services through the Better Access Program.
