The Chronic Disease Wound Management Project aims to assist with the education and training requirements of GPs & nurses responsible for the care and management of patients with chronic or complex wounds in the general practice or residential aged care setting.
Nurse participants attend evening education sessions with a focus on wound assessment and management of patients with a chronic or complex wound modelled on the Australian Wound Management Association (AWMA) wound management module framework. 2 practical based workshops on compression therapy and wound dressings and products are also offered to compliment the education sessions.
General Practitioners can participate in a Chronic Disease Wound Management Active Learning Module which includes information on the impact of wounds, the wound healing process, patient and wound assessment, aetiology of wounds, wound bed preparation, management of the Diabetic foot and managing common acute wounds. The module also includes interactive compression therapy and wound dressing workshops.
By participating in this project, it is hoped GPs & nurses will become more confident and increase their knowledge in clinical decision making regarding wound management of patients in their practice.
For further information regarding the project please contact Bev Korn, Program Manager Primary Health Care, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 5612 5413
