GCPHN Publication Generally Speaking for Gold Coast general practices

In the July edition

Generally Speaking publication goes digital

As of July 2018, Gold Coast Primary Health Network's (GCPHN) Generally Speaking publication will be published in digital format only and will no longer be sent to practices in printed copy. This decision has been made based on feedback from general practices and GPs and will also allow for more efficient and timely communication with local general practices. 

New referral templates for Gold Coast general practices

A full suite of external referral templates has been updated for Gold Coast general practices, which feature Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC), to help streamline and standardise referrals to Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service.

13 HEALTH webtest project

The 13 HEALTH webtest is a pilot project which offers Queensland residents aged 16 years or older the option to order a free chlamydia and gonorrhea urine test online. 13 HEALTH webtest requests can be made through the Queensland Government website. 

Earlier Diagnosis of Sepsis

Dr Shane George, a Staff Specialist – Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Care, is raising awareness about recent research to help provide earlier diagnosis of sepsis (also known as septicaemia or blood positioning).

Jungara Unit - Child Protection Unit

The Jungara Unit is the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service single point of contact for all child protection matters. The National Clinical Assessment Framework highlights the continuity of care for these children, who are required to be medically reviewed within the first three months of their placement.

Emergency Department (EDIS) Clinical Notes are back!
In March a risk was identified with EDIS clinical notes potentially displaying inaccurate information in The Viewer and as a result, all clinical notes from EDIS were disabled. 

Electronic Discharge Summaries
General practices can receive pathology and radiology results in Electronic Discharge Summaries (EDS).
 

Have you registered for the Health Provider Portal (The Viewer)?
The Health Provider Portal (HPP) service provides summary patient healthcare details to registered and authenticated health practitioners. 



Mental Health / Alcohol & Other Drugs

New Plus Social Program for people with severe mental illness

From 1 July 2018 a new service commenced on the Gold Coast for people with severe mental illness. This service is called the Plus Social Program. The Plus Social Program provides service information, intake and triage service into currently funded GCPHN organisations, clinical care coordination, and
after hours community based space.

Referral form for GCPHN-funded Mental Health Stepped Care Services

In order to simplify our intake process, as of 1 July 2018, Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) funded Mental Health Services will have one referral form for all programs. 

Alcohol and Drug Clinical Advisory Service for health professionals

The Alcohol and Drug Clinical Advisory Service (ADCAS) is a specialist telephone support service for health professionals in Queensland, providing clinical advice regarding the management of patients with alcohol and other drug concerns. This free service is available from 8.00 am-11.00 pm, 7 days a week.

Australian-first ‘The Prevention Hub’ launches

The Prevention Hub is Australia's first integrated research initiative into pre venting anxiety and depression.

Recovery Oriented Language Guide

The Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) has developed the Recovery Oriented Language Guide to address the importance of language choice, particularly when working or dealing with mental health.



Cancer Screening

Immunisation and cancer screening enquiries at GCPHN

The way immunisation and cancer screening enquiries are managed at Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) is changing. From 1 July, enquiries regarding immunisations and cancer screening will be managed by our Practice Support Team. Previously these enquiries were managed by the Project Officer – Immunisations and Cancer Screening.

Elder Abuse Prevention and Support Service (EAPSS) focuses on older people (non-Indigenous aged 60+, and Indigenous aged 50+) who are experiencing, or are at risk of, elder abuse, by offering case management, support, information and advice.

Security practices and policies checklist for My Health Record

A participating provider is authorised by law (My Health Record Act 2012) and through an individual’s ‘standing consent’ given at registration) to upload health information about the individual to their My Health Record.

Learn how to view a My Health Record for patient under your care, including discharge summaries, medicines to view and more.

My Health Record - clinical software simulators and summary sheets

There is a range of clinical software simulators or ‘sandboxes’ with which you can simulate viewing, creating and uploading clinical information to a fictional patient’s My Health Record, as well as carrying out Assisted Registration.

Immunisation

National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedules changes - 1 July 2018

From 1 July 2018, there will be significant changes to the National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule and we are keen to ensure you have access to the information you need to implement the new schedule.

No Jab No Pay and Healthy Start for School compliance incentive

From 1 July 2018, Family Tax Benefit recipients will have their payments reduced by up to $737.30 per year for each child not meeting immunisation or health check requirements, where required.

Flu vaccination program requirements

From 1 May 2018, Australian Government-subsidised providers of residential aged care have been required to have in place a flu vaccination program that provides staff and volunteers of the service with access to a free flu vaccination on an annual basis.

Important information for practices with the CAT Plus Suite installed

Current agreements for the use of this tool through Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) concluded on 30 June 2018. To ensure ongoing access to the tool, you will be receiving new practice agreements in the coming weeks – until then your access will not be affected. Please expect contact from the practice support team shortly. 

Data security: Data Breach

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) recently issued its first report of notifiable data breaches. More than 50 per cent of these breaches were caused by human error with only two per cent due to system error. Topping the list were health service data breaches at 24 per cent of the total. This is an important reminder to us all to acknowledge the risk and be vigilant to common security threats. 

Did you know we are halfway through the triennium?

We are already 18 months through the triennium! HALFWAY! Now is a good time for GPs to consider their continuous professional development (CPD) to ensure that they are on track to achieve 130 points by the end of 2019 including PLAN, one category 1 activity and one CPR.

Shingles Vaccine data now available in CAT4

A recent update to CAT 4 has included new reports to the Daily CAT view which will enable additional prompts to be created for display in Topbar. This includes the addition of shingles immunization data available.
