NewAccess is based on the United Kingdom’s NHS Improved Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) program has been adapted to the Australian setting
Real world trials in Australia, independently evaluated by Ernst & Young, have proven that the program:
Is clinically effective and consistently yields recovery rates of 60-70%
Successfully breaks down stigma barriers
Is liked by participants and has a retention rate of 88%
Successfully engages and treats men - traditionally a group less likely to seek help
The program includes up to six free sessions
This includes an assessment, five subsequent sessions and a review of LiCBT
The first appointment is normally between 45-60 minutes and subsequent sessions are 20-30 minutes
Sessions are flexibly delivered via face-to-face or telehealth modalities such as Skype
If participants are identified as requiring a higher intensity level of support, NewAccess has a clear framework for risk management and ‘stepping up’ to the most appropriate level of intervention
Coaches support individuals to achieve recovery and equip them with the understanding and self-management skills to maintain ongoing wellbeing
Coaches will provide feedback to the GP after the first and last session.
Delivered by specifically trained and clinically supervised ‘Coaches’ (Training occurs over 12 months)
All coach activity, sessions and alerts are monitored by clinical supervisors via case management systems developed for this service.
