Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) is partnering with the National Eating Disorder Collaboration (NEDC) to run the Addressing Eating Disorders in Primary Care workshop. The workshop aims to equip General Practitioners (GPs) and other health providers with evidence-based education on eating disorders including screening and assessment tools, treatment modalities, resources and referral pathways relevant to their role in the early identification and management of individuals experiencing an eating disorder in a community setting.
Eating disorders affect approximately 9% of Australians and have one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness; and require a multidisciplinary approach.
When armed with the right information, screening and referral tools, GPs, psychologists, dietitians and primary health care professionals play an important role in early identification and supporting recovery.
- Recognise and respond to the myths, prevalence, risk factors, comorbidities, and warning signs of eating disorders
- Apply practical evidence based strategies in the prevention, early identification, assessment and management of eating disorders
- Explain essential elements of care and recovery, and implement multidisciplinary strategies to improve client health outcomes
- Identify evidence-based eating disorders resources, referral pathways and specialised support services
NEDC is delighted to host highly-experienced eating disorder clinician Dr Kate Murphy, Consultant Psychiatrist, Robina Hospital.
RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2017– 2019 triennium activity number 153999, allocated 4 category 2 CPD points.
This workshop is FREE with dinner provided

CANCELLATIONS: Online registrations will be confirmed immediately in our booking system. This is our preferred method of RSVP. To cancel your RSVP please use the email link or call the GCPHN events team (PH. 07 5635 2455). In recent months a number of registrants to our events have failed to attend and have not provided cancellation advice. This often results in others, often on wait lists, being unable to attend. In addition, GCPHN resources are wasted as costs for catering and support staff are still incurred. Each event therefore incurs a cost per person ranging from $65 - $120. GCPHN wishes to continue to provide training and education at no cost to primary care providers, however for these reasons we may have to consider implementing fees to offset our costs in the future. Please ensure you provide at least 2 days’ notice if you need to cancel your registration
