The General Practice Liaison Unit (the GPLU) has received feedback from local General Practitioners that when incomplete referrals are returned by Gold Coast Health to a GP, it needs to be made clearer what missing information is required. After consultation with local GPs, the GPLU has worked with Gold Coast Health to develop an interim solution.
In future, all returned referrals will have a watermark at the top left of the document (the text runs at right angles to the main body of the referral) citing specific information required by the specialist team to triage patients. This watermark is highlighted in the picture (to the right, click to enlarge).
While this is a step in the right direction, it is only an interim solution and the GPLU will continue to work with local GPs and GCH to address this issue on a more permanent basis as Queensland Health moves to Smart Referrals in 2019. |

Smart referrals will give GPs greater visibility of local referral pathways and processes, including approximate wait times for patients.
