Children’s Health Queensland has established free multidisciplinary clinics run by health professionals who work closely with families to help them find solutions to the challenges of childhood obesity. The clinics have been established at Logan Community Centre, Browns Plains and Beenleigh.
The multidisciplinary team consists of a multicultural health worker, clinical nurse consultant, dietitian, physiotherapist and a psychologist. The team explores the family’s dynamics and works to a model of family-centred care.
Multidisciplinary teams convey many benefits to both the patients, families and the health professionals working on the team. These include; improved health outcomes and enhanced satisfaction for clients, and more efficient use of resources and enhanced job satisfaction for team members.
