Changes to the GP Liaison Unit

There have been important changes for the GP Liaison Unit (GPLU) and its staff.

Scope of work

In future, the focus of the GPLU will be to support the programs of work of the Integrated Care Alliance (ICA) and The Centre for Health Innovation (CHI).

The two main objectives of the GPLU are:
  • To engage with GPs and general practice teams to build strong and supportive relationships between community and hospital settings; and
  • To help develop and implement new models of care for complex, frail and multimorbid patients.
Historically, the GPLU managed clinical queries from GPs. In future, clinical queries should be directed in the first instance to the GCH Complex Care Team (CCT) by phone (1300 00 42 42). There is also an option to provide feedback to the Patient Liaison Service (PLS). If neither of these services are suitable, the GPLU can be contacted by e-mail at GCGPLU@health.qld.gov.au.

GPLU staff
  • Ms Karen Whitting, the erstwhile GPLU Program Manager, transferred to the GCH Integrated and Ambulatory Care Service in May 2019.
  • Ms Ashleigh Moore, the main Project Officer of the GPLU, will transition to a new role in CHI in August 2019.
  • Dr Carl de Wet stepped down as GPLO in June 2019 and is now the Clinical Lead for Gold Coast Primary Health Network and for the Healthcare Improvement Unit (HIU) of Queensland Health.
  • The Project Officers Mr Nathan Valentine and Ms Rebecca Noble successfully completed the implementation of the Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC) in general practice project and are working on new projects in other units.
Dr Danika Fietz (pictured) will be continuing as the GPLO for the Gold Coast in a part time capacity of two days a week.
