Cardiac Rehabilitation Service (Gold Coast Health)

The service specialises in multi-disciplinary care for patients with cardiac risk factors or a diagnosed cardiac condition; assisting patients with cardiovascular disease return to optimal health and an active lifestyle aimed at reducing the risk of futher cardiac events.
 
Clients who are post-acute myocardial infarction will be given priority to the program. Clients who are non-acute will be prioritised according to the cardiovascular risk in collaboration with their treating Cardiologist.

This service is for patients/patients 18 years and older with:
  • Medically stable post Myocardial Infarction (>2-3 weeks post NSTEMI; 3-4 weeks post STEMI); with or without Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
  • PTCA elective intervention (>2 weeks post PCI)
  • Stable angina
  • CABG surgery (>4 weeks post CABG)
  • Valvular surgery (>4 weeks post surgery)
  • Pacemaker and ICD insertion (>4 weeks post surgery)
  • Heart transplant (>4 weeks post surgery)
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • High risk factor profile
Medical governance by Professor Rohan Jayasinghe, Director Cardiology (not directly involved in the rehabilitation program)

Services offered:

Cardiac nursing assessment
Multidisciplinary referral as identified during assessment
Group education offered at Robina Health Precinct and Helensvale Community Health Centre
Twice weekly evidence based and individually tailored exercise program (Robina Health Precinct only)
Onward referral to COACH services, linkages with maintenance exercise options.
